Shop Doc: Gloves

I-CAR GlovesHands are one of the most sensitive parts of the body.

The skin's natural barrier does not provide enough protection during collision repair. The proper gloves must be worn to protect hands from chemicals, heat, debris, vibration, and abrasions.

Gloves are made from many different materials including heat- and abrasion-resistant leather, chemical-resistance nitrile, and vibration- and impact-resistant padding. Some mechanic's gloves are being made of synthetic materials that protect against both chemicals and abrasions.

Learning to protect yourself is an important step toward a safe and successful career.

The University of Edinburgh has more information on hand protection and a guide to glove selection in the Occupational Hygiene Guidance section of their web site.
